Fast Charging Basics - A 15-Minute Guide
Fast charging recharges batteries at opportune times during the work shift when the lift truck is idle, such as operator
breaks, lunches and shift changes. Each lift truck needs only one battery
and the battery is charged while in the lift truck. Charging at significantly
higher rates than traditional chargers, a Minit-Charger restores battery capacity quickly to allow operators to perform their duties throughout the workday, stopping for only scheduled breaks.
The fast charging process is as follows:
 |
The operator proceeds to the fast charger at his regularly scheduled break. The operator
quickly connects the truck directly to the fast charger, using connectors mounted on the lift
truck (about 15 seconds), then the operator enjoys his break.
|
 |
While the operator rests, Minit-Charger goes to work. It performs a battery health check
and automatically determines battery voltage, capacity and state of charge, then delivers only the needed charge. The operator merely connects and forgets.
|
 |
After the break, the operator disconnects the truck (about 15 seconds) and returns to work.
|
Result: Regularly scheduled breaks and other opportune times are used to re-charge the
battery in the lift truck. The productivity gain by not having to interrupt work to change the
battery is substantial.
No battery changing is involved
The operator is encouraged to connect as often as work schedules permit. Minit-Charger frequently locates fast chargers next to break rooms for operator convenience. This has several productivity enhancing benefits:
- Encourages the operators to connect the lift trucks
- Organizes the trucks so that they may be easily found after shift changes
- Prevents parked trucks from blocking product aisles or interfering with regularly scheduled work
